Report: IDF kills Palestinian in Nablus
Palestinians say army raided home during attempt to arrest wanted Fatah operative, who had previously been given amnesty. They say troops fired 'all over the place,' killed bystander
Palestinians sources report a man was killed in Nablus during an IDF arrest raid on Wednesday evening. Palestinians said the troops were trying to arrest a wanted Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades operative, Jaf'ar Jua'ara, in the Ras al-Ein neighborhood. The sources said several people had been shot at the scene, and that a bystander was killed.
The Palestinians report that shortly after the commencement of evening meals to break the Ramadan fast, and IDF force stormed the house where Jua'ara was staying. A Palestinian security official in Nablus told Ynet that Jua'ara had been on the list of wanted men from Fatah's military wing to receive amnesty from Israel.
The army arrested Jua'ara, along with Shuaban Abu-Jabar, also a Fatah operative.
According to the report, the man killed is Walid Faritah, a 22-year-old resident of the city. The sources said Faritah was shot in his leg and bled for an hour, the sources said, adding that another youth had also been seriously wounded.
A relative of Jua'ara's, a senior member of the Islamic Jihad, was in the vicinity of the raid, but there were no reports of his arrest. IDF troops are still encircling the area.
Israel issues numerous warning that it would arrest Palestinians who had been granted amnesty if they
returned to terror. The threat was realized some two weeks ago when security forces arrested Mahmoud Lubada, a Tanzim member who was among the first to be pardoned as part of the amnesty deal with the Palestinian Authority.
In the framework of the agreement some 270 West Bank gunmen began a three-month probation period. Those who refrained from engaging in terror activity during this time were subsequently removed from Israel's most wanted list and allowed to move freely within Palestinian controlled Zone-A without fear of IDF arrest.
