University student body protesting tuition increase, Secondary School Teachers’ Organization members unite, saying government failed to comply with respective agreements
Students reignite the struggle against the tuition increase. Approximately 100 police-escorted students protested on Wednesday evening in Tel Aviv.
The students decided to unite with the Secondary School Teachers’ Organization in their struggle; as both sides claimed that their respective agreements were dishonored.

Deadline arrives for students’ final condition pertaining to increase in tuition for upcoming academic year. Student leaders to meet government officials in attempt to prevent additional strike
As Ynet reported earlier, a decision was made to refrain from honoring the agreement with the students and raise tuition by NIS 1,000 (about $287).
The students have demanded that the agreement they signed a year ago, in which the government committed to abstain from increasing tuition costs in the upcoming year, be regarded until consensual negotiations are conducted on the subject.
According to National Student Union Chairman Boaz Toporovsky, “we insist that the government abide by the pact signed with us, we won’t let the students be harmed.
“Today is just the opening shot in the renewal of our struggle; we have a lot of surprises in store for Knesset Members and the Finance Ministry.”
Simultaneously, an agreement was recently signed with the National Teachers Union and the Teachers’ Organization demanded that the agreement signed with them, but not materialized, be honored as well.
'Students are country's future'
According to Secondary School Teacher's Organization (SSTO) head Ran Erez, the Israeli government has proven to the public time and again that it does not comply with agreements.
“The students are the country’s future. Unfortunately, the government doesn’t understand and hasn’t learned its lesson. The students’ struggle during (Opposition leader MK) Benjamin Netanyahu’s (Likud)
prime ministerial term was successful.
“The struggle a year ago during (Prime Minister Ehud) Olmert’s term
succeeded. Agreements were signed with you and you are not abiding by them.
Erez addressed the students saying, “I am full of hope that the next prime minister will understand the hint that you have clout in this country and that she complies with the agreements signed with you and those signed with us.
“If need-be we will strike with the students,” said Erez.
