Randy Newman to perform in Israel

Academy Award winning singer, pianist to hold one gig in Tel Aviv in November following release of his latest solo album

Renowned musician Randy Newman will perform in Tel Aviv's Hamishkan Leomanuyot Habama (performing arts house) on November 23. The company behind Newman's visit to Israel is Alive Productions, and ticket prices are expected to range between NIS 200-320 (about $58-93).

Newman is currently on a concert tour in the United States. He plans to launch his European tour at the beginning of November, and is expected to arrive in Israel following a gig in London. A day after his Israel concert he is scheduled to perform in Switzerland.

Newman will arrive in Israel following the release of his new album "Harps and Angels" in early August, his first solo album in a decade. The Tel Aviv concert is expected to include songs from the new album alongside old classics. Newman visited the Holy Land once before, in 1989.

Apart from his famous songs and special and familiar piano playing, the 64-year-old artist is also considered one of the most active and successful composers of film soundtracks.

Throughout the years, he wrote the music for movies such as "Ragtime," "Toy Story," "Maverick," "Meet the Parents" and "Monsters, Inc," for which he won an Academy Award for the song "If I Didn't Have You."

He was nominated for an Oscar more than 15 times, and has also won two Emmy Awards, one of them for his work on the TV series "Monk."

Newman, who launched his musical career in the early 1960s, released his first album in 1968 at the age of 24. In 1977, he released his greatest hit, the ironic song "Short People," which reached the second place in US charts.

Newman has released more than 10 solo albums, in addition to collections and more than 20 Hollywood film soundtracks.
