UJC to hold 3 major events in Israel in November

Organization plans series of high-profile events in honor of Israel's 60th anniversary that will bring together thousands of participants from Israel and North America

The United Jewish Communities (UJC), an organization representing 155 federations and 400 Jewish communities in North America, will hold three major conventions in Israel this month in honor of Israel's 60th anniversary.

Prominent Israeli and Jewish leaders, including President Shimon Peres, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, will be keynote speakers in these events.

The first event – a conference titled "Lions of Judah", will be held in Tel Aviv on November 12-16 and bring together 1,500 women to discuss women's power and contribution in fields of social activism, community building and philanthropy.

The General Assembly of the organization's young leadership, the NextGen GA, will convene for the first time at the Jerusalem International Convention Center (ICC) on November 16. The purpose of the assembly is to strengthen the new and veteran Jewish leadership, and the commitment of the next generation to preserving and developing relations between Israel and the global Jewish communities.

The General Assembly of the United Jewish Communities will take place at the ICC on November 16-19 and will host around 3,000 participants. Shari Arison will chair the GA, together with Mark and Jane Wilf from the USA.

The program will address global and national issues on the Jewish agenda and offer over 60 tracks and tours in the country which would give the participants the opportunity to discover the extensive activities of the Jewish Agency and the Joint throughout Israel, supported by UJC funds.

Nachman Shai, UJC Israel executive vice president and director general said, “Despite the global economic crisis and its repercussions worldwide, thousands of representatives of the Jewish world will come to Israel to promote fundraising for Israel's vital issues and projects.

"The tremendous participation in the assembly of so many active members of Jewish communities stresses the commitment of North American Jewry to the Jewish people and the State of Israel”.
