Israeli ski resort to open next year

State's first artificial indoor ski resort to open at foot of Mt. Gilboa at end of 2009

A new ski resort will open its doors in late 2009 on Mt. Gilboa in northern Israel, the Gilboa Regional Council, which is leading the project, reportedย on Monday.

ย

The resort is part of a commercial-tourist project entitled "Sha'ar HaGilboa" that will be located on an area of 18 acres at the foot of Mt. Gilboa.

ย

With illuminated ski tracks spanning 320 meters (about 1050 ft.), 40 of which will be used as a training course, a cable car, a ski school for children and adults and a commercial center including stores, restaurants and cafes, the $20 million project will be open all year round.

The project's initiators promised the site would be well-lit and suited for skiing in the evening and night hours as well.

ย

โ€œIt will be a unique and leading attraction in Israel,โ€ Gilboa Council Head Danny Atar said Wednesday.

ย

โ€œWe believe that other than all the Israeli tourists and tourists from abroad that can enjoy the site that allows for the skiing experience in the summer as well, it will give a significant boost to tourism in Gilboa with the dozens of guest houses and the rustic hotel that will soon be built near the site."
