Officer leading soldiers into Gaza describes difficult groundwork involved in military operation, says force has so far discovered tunnels intended for abducting troops, weapons, anti-aircraft missiles, and booby-trapped buildings in civilian centers
Ronen Shoval, one of the organizers of the event, was cheered by the massive turnout. "When things get tough we know how to unite," he said. "I hope this unity remains after the war."
Shiri Weisman, who showed up to support her brother currently in Gaza, said her family hadn't heard from him in a few days. "They're probably in a very intense operation," she said. "Instead of sitting and waiting by the phone I decided to go and do something, to support my brother and the rest of the soldiers out there."
The centerpieces of the event were two horses sporting pro-IDF slogans, belonging to a veterinarian, Dr. Rinat Biton. "I live in a town near Ashdod. We're tired of the alarms, so we decided to come to Tel Aviv for a change of pace and also to strengthen the IDF soldiers," she said.
"The atmosphere here is different but we need to remember that rockets are falling very nearby. We never believed the rockets would reach Ashdod, either."
