Two residents of the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber were indicted on charges of aggravated assault and assaulting a police officer Thursday, after rioting during the sealing off of a terrorist's home in the neighborhood.
The incident in question took place on Monday, as police and Border Guard forces secured and sealed off the home of Alaa Abu Dheim, who killed eight yeshiva students in the attack on Mercaz Harav seminary in Jerusalem, last March.
The Jerusalem District Prosecution claimed that the two – Sami Awisat, 31, and Jamil Abu-Tir, 23 – along with several other unknown individuals, gathered outside the house and began shouting and booing the forces.
Despite the officers warning to cease inciting the crowd, Awisat allegedly proceeded to pick up and throw a cement block in the officers' direction. Abu-Tir followed with stoning another officer, who suffered a complex radial fracture for which he now requires surgery.
The court has yet to rule on the defendants remand.
