Regional government officials said Pakistan will impose Islamic law in parts of its northwest where Taliban fighters increasingly hold sway.
The decision follows government talks with a pro-Taliban group aimed at convincing militants in the Swat Valley to lay down their arms. The officials did not offer many specifics. However, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, a provincial information minister, said all laws that do not comply with Islamic texts are suspended in the Malakand region, which includes Swat. (AP)
