Police: We had no alert on possible shooting

Following murder of two officers Sunday evening, Judea and Samaria Police chief says Jordan valley region usually very quiet, police received no concrete warning regarding plan to attack officers

The Jordan Valley region saw no terror attack in the last several years, and local police officials said that no intelligence regarding an imminent attack has been received prior to Sunday's shooting attack, which left two policemen dead.

The two officers killed are David Rabinovitch, 42, and Yehezkel Remzarker, 50.

Head of the Judea and Samaria District, Commander Shlomi Kaatbi, told Ynet Monday: "Our estimate is that the policemen, who were on operational activity in the area, approached a car after the passengers asked for their help. The terrorist or terrorists then opened fire at them at point blank."

According to the police commander, it was still unclear whether the officers got out of the car before being shot. When security forces arrived at the scene the police car was found off the road with Rabinovitch and Remzarker inside.

Kaatbi said that after the shooting the terrorists fled the area in their vehicle.

"This sector is normally very quiet. We had no concrete alert about a plan to target policemen," he stated, adding that the shooting seemed deliberate rather than accidental.

The funeral of Senior Staff Sergeant Major Rabinovitch will be held at the Haifa cemetery at 12 pm Monday. Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Yehezkel Remzarker will be laid to rest at 4 pm at the Yavne cemetery.
