Israeli traveler killed sand-boarding in Peru

Aviv Bokovza, 21, dies in hospital from wounds sustained while sand-boarding near Ica, Peru

An Israeli traveler died Saturday of wounds he sustained while sand-boarding near the Peruvian city of Ica. Aviv Bokovza, 21 of Beersheba, had been traveling through South America and was scheduled to return to Israel next month.

Just days before he died, Bokovza went sky-diving with a special message on his hands saying: "Mom, Dad, I love you in the sky, too".

His friend told Ynet that sand-boarding was generally regarded as safe. "His parents thought it was like normal skiing. They didn't think it was dangerous," he said.

Bokovza had been traveling with a number of childhood friends, who notified his family of the disaster that had befallen them.

"One of his friends called and asked us to tell his parents that they didn't leave him for a second," Bokovza's uncle said. "They brought him to the hospital, but he died there."
