The Haifa Regional Planning and Building Commission's subcommittee green lighted two plans meant to regulate the construction in two of Umm al-Fahm's neighborhoods.
The plans, authorized over the weekend, focus on the northern city's Wadi Melhem and Suissa neighborhoods, both located north of the city's pre-constructed area.
According to the plans, the Wadi Melhem neighborhood would be allotted 17 acres, half of which were assigned for the residential construction of 200 housing units. The Suissa neighborhood was allotted 54 acres – 32 which were assigned for the residential construction of 200 housing units.
An Interior Ministry statement said that the neighborhood's "existing constructed area has 85 housing units devoid of the necessary building permits - 60 of them in the Suissa neighborhood and 25 in Wadi Melhem. The plans' approval has allowed for these buildings to be given the permits they need."
Over the past few years, the ministry's Planning Authority has undertaken regulating and outlining all of Israel's Arab sector communities. The Planning Authority is currently working on outlining 87 of the sector's communities.
