Obama, Putin welcome Bibi

American President, Russian PM call to congratulate incoming Prime Minister Netanyahu

United States President Barack Obama and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called incoming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Wednesday to congratulate him on taking office.

 

The two leaders expressed their well-wishes and invited Netanyahu to visit their countries.

 

In Netanyahu's talk with the American president, Obama reiterated America's unwavering commitment to Israel. Officials at the incoming PM's Office said that the talk between the two leaders lasted close to 30 minutes and characterized it as friendly and constructive.

 

Netanyahu's office added that the leaders expressed their confidence that the two countries will continue to cooperate closely.

 

Meanwhile, officials said that Netanyahu's talk with Putin dealt with the prospects of tightening the ties between Israel and Russia, as well as regional security needs and the need to advance regional peace and stability.

 

The two leaders reportedly agreed to meet in the near future, with Putin telling Netanyahu that he is a "welcome guest in Moscow." Officials at the Prime Minister's Office characterized the conversation as friendly.
