Dvir Bar-Hai before injury

Fighter critically hurt in Gaza to spend Passover at home

Golani Sergeant Dvir Bar-Hai coming home for first time since sustaining severe injuries during Israeli offensive in Strip. 'We are grateful for this miracle,' says his father

Passover present: Golani Sergeant Dvir Bar-Hai, who suffered sever injuries during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in January, will be released from the Loewenstein Rehabilitation Center in Raanana for the first time since he was hospitalized, in order to celebrate the Passover Seder with his family,

Bar-Hai will return to the Loewenstein Center after the holiday, to continue his rehabilitation treatment.

"This is a very important milestone," said Dvir's father, Zvi Bar-Hai, who is also the head of the South Hebron Regional Council. "It's the first time he'll be home in months."

The family hopes that the festive atmosphere will strengthen Dvir. "We are grateful for this miracle, for the fact that he's getting stronger. I hope being home – he's so attached to the beauty of this place – will give him the strength he needs to continue his long road to recovery. He needs everyone's prayers," added the father.

Celebrating Passover with their son was something the family did not think could happen, he explained. "We've been living hour by hour. He's in a very complex (medical) situation, but we really hoped he could be home with us for the holiday.

"When I look into his eyes I see s strong young man who still doesn't understand the scope of his recovery, of what he has to deal with," said the soldier's father, adding that his son had only recently begun speaking again.

Next Passover, he concluded, he hopes to see his son back on his feet and fully recovered.
