Indictment: Sinai infiltrator planned terror attacks

Saliman Suwerka, 24, of Sinai accused of infiltrating into Israel in order to help carry out suicide bombing or kidnapping in country

An indictment was filed against Sinai resident Saliman Suwerka, for infiltrating into Israel and plotting to carry out a suicide attack or kidnapping attack in the country.

According to the indictment, which was filed on Sunday, the 24-year-old planned the attack with the help of a resident of the Gaza Strip. Suwerka is also accused of smuggling 700 kilograms of explosives into Gaza.

The indictment revealed that Suwerka, along with another Egyptian and a Palestinian from Gaza, planned to infiltrate Israel in March 2009.

Suwerka and his friend were supposed to locate an appropriate target - either a crowded public venue or a military facility, for the Palestinian to carry out a suicide bombing at.

According to the plan, the Gazan was to enter the country covertly and smuggle the explosives with him in a cigarette box. Meanwhile, Suwerka and the other Egyptian were to obtain a car in which to transport the would-be suicide bomber from the border to the designated target.

The plotters also had an alternative plan should the first one fail, which was to kidnap an Israeli soldier and transfer him to Gaza through Sinai.

The indictment also charged Suwerka with smuggling 15 missiles from Egypt to one of the terror groups in the Gaza Strip. The two also allegedly smuggled 700 kilos of TNT explosives to another terror organization.

Suwerka was arrested in an agricultural field in Israel about a month ago during a raid on illegal workers.
