New building project to commemorate former FMs
Ahead of Independence Day, Yair B. construction company decides to name buildings in new luxury complex on former Foreign Ministry compound in Jerusalem after its previous tenants
The Yair B. construction company's luxury apartment building project, "Mishkanot HaUma", in the former Foreign Ministry compound in Jerusalem will house former Israeli foreign ministers.
Ahead of Independence Day, the Yair B. Group decided to name the new buildings after some of the land's previous tenants – historical foreign ministers such as Moshe Sharett, Yigal Alon, Golda Meir, Abba Eban, Moshe Dayan, Yitzhak Shamir, Moshe Arens, Shimon Peres, David Levy and others.
"The Jerusalemites don't have a future without a past," said Nadav Lisovsky, the company's marketing manager.
"The project is located between the Knesset and the government compound and the Supreme Court, so we thought it was best, especially ahead of Independence Day, to commemorate those that were here before us," Lisovsky added.
"I accepted the proposal very happily," said Yaakov Sharett, son of Israel's first Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett. "I think this is a great honor for me and for my father's memory," he added.
Former Foreign Minister Professor Moshe Arens was slightly embarrassed on Tuesday, and said, "I am not a big fan of naming places after living people, but I am certainly honored."
Former MK Yael Dayan, the daughter of the late Moshe Dayan, had a special request: "I am very much for the commemoration, but in our case I would like it if my father was commemorated in a public park or cultural hall."
Following Dayan's request, Yair B. decided to name the new complex's central boulevard after her father.
