Israel Prize laureate actress Gila Almagor will receive an honorary doctorate from Tel Aviv University next month, on May 18, "for her unmatched contribution to Israeli culture as the first lady of stage and cinema."

According to the university, Almagor, who turns 70 this year, will be honored "for her outstanding professional achievements as actress, writer, screenwriter and media figure, for her dramatic brilliance in portraying a wide range of characters and her commitment to excellence in artistic performance and interpretation."

The university heads also praised Almagor's philanthropic efforts and volunteer work, and particularly her involvement in the Gila Almagor Wish Fund, a charity for sick children and children at risk.

Last year the Tel Aviv University granted the title to another actress of Israel's national theater Habima, Lea Koenig.
