YRF gala to raise funds for Israel's youth

Non-profit organization hopes to raise more than $480,000 in Sunday's annual gala for purpose of offering enrichment lessons to underprivileged kids

The Youth Renewal Fund (YRF) is scheduled to hold its annual gala on Sunday to raise funds for the purpose of building more classrooms in Israel and offering enrichment classes in math, English and language skills to underprivileged children and teens.

Among those expected to attend the event, which will be held in Herzliya's 9 Beach at 8 pm, are Pelephone CEO Gil Sharon, who is also chairing the event, outgoing Hapoalim Bank CEO Zvi Ziv and journalist Yair Lapid.

Last year's gala raised NIS 1.6 million (roughly $380,000), and organizers hope to raise more than NIS 2 million (about $480,000) on Sunday.

"The social and economic gaps in Israel pose a strategic threat and we must work towards narrowing them, particularly among children and teens, who are the future." Sharon said.

"If we invest in them today, we'll see the gaps decrease in the future," the Pelephone CEO added.

Galit Toledano-Harris, YRF's executive director in Israel, said the funds are bieng raised through ticket sales and sponsorship, and called on additional Israeli companies to "donate for the sake of the future of Israel's children."

YRF was established in 1989 to provide supplemental education to underprivileged children in Israel.

Tickets for the event cost NIS 350 ($84).
