French cinema festival to kick off in June

Festival showcasing current French cinema to be hosted by cinematheques across Israel. Festival to include homage for late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent

Cinematheques across Israel will host the French Cinema Festival for the sixth time this year. The festival will kick off on June 8 with director Josiane Balasko's "Cliente," in which she stars next to Nathalie Baye.

 

Balasko will arrive in Israel as a guest of the festival with her husband, George Aguilar, who also participates in the movie.

 

The two will attend the movie's premiere in Israel.

 

'Cliente' to open festival

 

Other guests who will be coming in Israel to present their productions include director Vincent Garenq with his movie, "Commes les autres," and director Anne Fontaine with her movie "Coco avant Chanel," which will be screened as part of homage to the French fashion icon.

 

The goal of the festival, which is a joint project of the French Embassy and the Eden Cinema film production and distribution company, is to bring the best of current French cinema to Israeli audiences. Several of the movies screened in this year's festival will also be released to theatres across the country later on.

The movies of the festival, all with English subtitles, also include: "La belle personne," directed by Christophe Honoré; "Vilaine," directed by Jean-Patrick Benes, Allan Mauduit; "Stella," directed by Sylvie Verheyde; "L'Autre," directed by Patrick Mario- Bernard, Pierre Trividic; "Eleve libre," directed by Joachim Lafosse; "Pour elle," directed by Fred Cavayé; "Aide-toi le ciel t'aidera," directed by François Dupeyron; "Espion(s)," directed by Nicolas Saada; "Largo Winch," directed by Jérôme Salle; "Le premier jour du reste de ta vie," directed by Rémi Bezançon; "Le bal des actrices," directed by Maiwenn; "Nulle part terre promise," directed by Emmanuel Finkiel

 

'Coco avant Chanel'

 

The festival will host homage to fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent who died last year, with two documentaries on the designer, his life and his work, and various films for which Saint Laurent designed the costumes.

 

A list of prominent Israeli actresses will choose the favorite French film this year.

 

The festival will also feature segments of archive footage recorded in Tel Aviv as part of a special program dedicated to the city.
