Israeli windsurfing champ Shahar Zubari has won a gold medal in the RS:X European Championships, held in Tel Aviv Saturday.

Zubari, who will turn 23 in September, has previously taken home the windsurfing bronze medal in Beijing's 2008 Olympics.

After leading the competition for its six-day duration, Zubari arrived at the final race with a distinct lead over his opponents, requiring only a spot in the top eight in order to win.

With around 500 people cheering him on, Zubari finished third and took home the European gold medal.

Frenchmen Julien Bontemps won the silver medal, finishing 23 points behind Zubari, and Israel's Samuel Launay, who came in first in the final race, won the bronze.
