Noam Shalit, father of captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, told Ynet his decision to testify before the UN committee in Geneva, Switzerland was of his own initiative. "I stand here as a private individual, as Gilad's father… I do not expect support or guidance from the State in this matter," he said.
Shalit added that while the state is not cooperating with the UN investigation into Israel's Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, he has received unofficial support of his decision to testify before the committee from official bodies in the State. (Ahiya Raved)
