Hiria garbage site to host series of 'green events' throughout July, including outdoor movie screenings for the entire family
Who said a garbage site isn't a good place to screen movies? This summer the Visitor's Center at the Hiria Mountain garbage site will host a series of events titled, "Cinema Hiria," which will include the screening of movies dedicated to environmental issues.
Every Thursday in July, starting at 6 pm, sunset tours will depart from the center to the mountain and the nearby recycling park. At 8:30 pm visitors will be invited to watch a movie while sitting on blankets spread on the center's lawn..
The first movie to be screened last week was Wall-E, an animated movie about a robot that was designed to pick up trash in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world.
"The idea to hold movie screenings at Hiria sounded far-fetched a year ago," said Doron Sapir, head of the Dan Region Association of Towns - Sanitation and Waste disposal department, which runs the site.
"But in light of the huge demand from the public for green events, we initiated 'Cinema Hiria'," he explained.
