Shalit campaign slams government's first 100 days

Activists call on Netanyahu to make 'sincere efforts' to secure captive soldier's return, say his suffering 'immeasurable'

The headquarters of the campaign to free Gilad Shalit expressed its disappointment with the government's efforts to free the captive IDF soldier during its first 100 days.

Shimshon Libman, who recently took over as head of the campaign, issued a statement Wednesday in which he expressed hope that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would make "sincere efforts to secure the soldier's prompt return."

Shalit was kidnapped into Gaza by Palestinian terrorists on June 26, 2006.

"Gilad has been held captive by Hamas for more than three years with no contact with the outside world," Libman said. "The Shalit family regrets the fact that the government has been unsuccessful in bringing its son home.

"One hundred days and nights are an eternity for Gilad. There is no more time for hesitation. Gilad's suffering is immeasurable, as is the family's suffering," read the statement.

On Tuesday the captive's father, Noam Shalit, returned from Geneva, where he testified before a UN committee that is investigating the IDF's recent offensive in Gaza.
