'Sergeant Pepper' at the Opera
For first time in its history, Israeli Opera to present 'classical rock' series with symphonic arrangements for Beatles, Pink Floyd and Israeli rock
The Israeli Opera Tel Aviv-Yafo announced this week its upcoming 2009-2010 season's program. The events and concerts will open at the end of September and last until the end of July 2010.
The program includes five series, 20 concerts and over 120 musical works.
This year for the first time the opera will present a series titled "Classical Rock", which will be dedicated to symphonic arrangements for well-known pieces from the rock repertoire performed by special ensembles.
Each of the concerts will feature the Israeli Chamber Orchestra with guest soloists.
The first concert in the series will be dedicated to the Beatles' "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album. The second will be dedicated to Pink Floyd's "The Wall" with Olive & the Oblins Group.
The third concert will be dedicated to one of Israel's major rock singers.
The season's program also includes the Liturgical Series with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra; the Masters Musicians at the Center Series, which will be led by international opera singers Paata Burchuladze and Neil Neil Shicoff; the Popular Classical Music Series, in which the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra will perform four concerts of light classical music favorites; and the Symphonic Series – seven concerts from the best of the symphonic repertoire by the Israeli Symphony Orchestra Rishon Lezion.
