CPI up 0.5% in August
Recent increase in Consumer Price Index sixth in a row. Central Bureau of Statistics data indicates produce prices add 4.4%, housing prices up 1.2%; clothing prices down 7.8%
August's Consumer Price Index noted a 0.5% rise, the Central Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday.
The CPI has noted a 3.7% rise since the beginning of the year, and a 3.1% increase across the past 12 months.
Index sections which noted a rise include produce prices (+4.4%), entertainment (+1.8%) housekeeping (+1.2%) and housing (+1.2%).
Index sections which noted a slump were clothing (-7.8%) and transportation (0.5%).
According to CBS data, August marked the sixth consecutive price-hike of the past few months: July saw a 1.1% rise in prices, June noted a 0.9% rise, May saw s 0.4% increase, April a 1% hike and March a 0.5% rise.
The trend prompted the Bank of Israel to set interest rates at 0.75% (+0.25%). The Bank is likely to try and maintain low interest rates for as long as the market's recovery from the recession fails to reflect in unemployment percentages.
