GA president: Mideast conflict threatens world security

The newly instated United Nations General Assembly President Ali Treki addressed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in his speech before the GA, and said there is an urgent need for a permanent peace agreement in the region.

"The question of Palestine and the situation in the Middle East have been on the GA agenda for many years. Despite the many efforts, the question of Palestine and the Arab-Israeli conflict is still unsolved and continues to pose a serious threat on world peace and security. There is world recognition of the declining conditions in the occupied territories and the situation has become unbearable," said Treki. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
