Hamas criticizes Obama's Mideast peace stance

The militant Palestinian Hamas group on Thursday criticized Barack Obama's call for a resumption of Mideast peace talks without preconditions, a move seen by some Palestinians as backpedaling from the American president's earlier demand for a freeze on Israeli settlement construction.

The Palestinian organization, whose political leadership is exiled in Syria, said the meeting with Obama that brought together the Israeli and Palestinian leaders in New York reasserted the US administration's "bias" in favor of the "Zionist occupation, at the expense of Palestinian national rights."
