Gaydamak files NIS 50M suit against Williger brothers

Business mogul claims owners of Willi Food failed to hand over company despite NIS 171 million deal giving him controlling interest, thus 'causing him millions of shekels in damages'

Businessman Arcadi Gaydamak filed a NIS 50 million ($13.26 million) lawsuit against Willi Food owners Zvi and Yossi Williger Tuesday.

Gaydamak claims that despite having purchased controlling interest of Willi Food for NIS 171 million ($45.3 million), the two "have done everything in their power to stop (Gaydamak) from taking de facto control of the company."

The suit, filed with the Tel Aviv District Court, alleges that the Williger brothers "continuously ignored the fact that Gaydamak has controlling interest in the company, withheld information crucial to the proper management of the company and continued to run it as if it was still privately owned."

Gaydamak claims the two did not act in good faith, violating both his and his directors' trust by withholding pivotal information, "and all the while secretly devising a way to regain control of the company."

The Willigers' conduct, added the claim, "has caused (Gaydamak) to lose control of the company… and has severely damaged his reputation, causing him millions of shekels in damages."

The Williger brothers have yet to file a rebuttal of the suit.
