Vinnie's guide to Israel's cities
In honor of its 40th birthday, Roy Zukerman decides to take his rare antique car on a voyage around Holy Land. More than 1,700 kilometers later, we present pictures from Israel's 40 largest cities
Not every day does a vehicle owner celebrate his car's birthday, and even more so by going on a journey of over 1,700 kilometers (1,056 miles) to 40 cities in Israel. But this is exactly what Roy Zukerman, Ynet's automobile reporter, did in order to mark the 40th birthday of his rare Vignale Gamine car, a model built between 1967 and 1971 in very low volumes - between 200 and 300 units.
Roy's car, nicknamed 'Vinnie', arrived in Israel in 1971, two years after being manufactured in Italy, and he has owned it since 2003. About two years ago, Vinnie underwent a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic renovation.
As part of the birthday voyage, Roy took a picture of his car near the "Welcome" sign of each of the 40 largest cities in Israel, according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
The journey was held on six Saturdays, in the early morning hours. Roy chose the unusual day and time – 4 am – in order to face the least amount of traffic on the country's roads, but mostly in order to prevent the small engine from overstraining itself.
The story of the voyage and of Israel's 40 largest cities can be found in Vinnie's Guide to Israel, which includes a picture and short history of each city, and additional details on the journey.
Welcome to Tiberias, Israel's 36th largest city
