Initiative: Put price limit on bottled water at public events

Industry, Trade, Labor Ministry plans to push for amendment to law for control of products and services to determine maximum price limit for mineral water sold at concerts, public events

The Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry plans to put an end to the outrages prices on mineral water at concerts, sports events and other public events.

The ministry initiated an amendment of the law for control of products and services, which will determine a price limit for mineral water sold at public events.

Deputy Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Orit Noked, who is also responsible for the ministry's consumer department, is slated to convene for a session at the ministry the relevant bodies to determine precisely how the model of supervision at kiosks in public events should work.

Currently, a small bottle of mineral water can cost a consumer up to NIS10 – NIS15 ($2.7 - $4). The supervision will likely be implemented via the amendment to the law.

Noked said, "It can't be that merchants and vendors sell one of the most basic products such as mineral water at exorbitant prices at major events just because the consumers don't have another alternative at the place.

"This actually creates a situation in which the consumer turns into a hostage and the crowd falls captive during the event. I plan to work for the amendment of the law for control of products and services to determine a price limit for mineral water in these events, to put an end to the vendor's exploitation."
