UN official: Ban urged inquiry into Goldstone Report claims

A senior United Nations official said that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon called on Israel and the Palestinians to hold a "credible investigation" into the war crimes allegations during Operation Cast Lead.

The UN's Security Council opened the debate on the Goldstone Report as part of a general routine debate regarding the Middle East. The debate was pushed ahead a week at Libya's request in order to allow discussion on the controversial document. (AFP)
