Lebanese official: IDF images unreliable

Senior security source in Beirut says probe continues into recent South Lebanon explosion, questions validity of IDF photos

The circumstances of a recent explosion in South Lebanon are still unclear, and the probe into the incident continues, a senior security source in Beirut told London-based newspaper al-Sharq al-Awsat.

The source said IDF images showing a missile being smuggled out of the house that exploded were unreliable.

"When the blast occurred we were not present at the site and had no monitoring equipment in place, and therefore we are contributing our efforts and the technological means available to us to the efforts of international forces, and we'll see what we find," the source was quoted as saying.

"For the time being, we don't know the truth, and before we know it we can't say anything," he added. "We know that we have the sound of the blast, and based on this information we continue our investigation. The best thing would be to maintain secrecy and not to talk, while waiting for the picture to become clear."

As to the IDF video that Israel claims documented Hezbollah men in the process of smuggling a missile, the security source said: "Nobody knows how real these images are. Israel has advanced technological means, and it can create images or publish some of the information and hide parts of it so that things look as it wants. Hence, we do not see the video that was aired an authoritative source."

Friday night, UNIFIL's Spokeswoman in South Lebanon, Yasmina Bouziane, said the international forces continues to look into the incident in cooperation with the Lebanese Army.
