Woman killed, 17 hurt in road accident

Three cars, bus involved in south Israel crash; IDF helicopters dispatched to scene

A woman of about 20 was killed and 17 other people were hurt Wednesday evening in a road accident involving a bus and three cars which took place in southern Israel' just off the Tlalim Junction on Highway 40.

 

One person sustained moderate wounds, while all the other injuries were light.

 

IDF helicopters and ambulances were dispatched to the site of the accident. Most of the injured were evacuated by Magen David Adom (MDA) teams. Firefighters were also called to the scene to the assist with the evacuation effort and prevent a fire at the site.

 

MDA's Southern District Director Itzik Alfasi told Ynet that most injuries were sustained by passengers in the cars.

 

"When we arrived many of the wounded were spread all over the area," he said. "Two Air Force helicopters transported five of them to the hospital."

 

Officials have sealed off the site and held back traffic in the area.
