An indictment was filed Friday morning with the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court against a Ramat Gan resident for threatening to murder Culture and Sports Minister Limor Livnat of the Likud
party. The court did not release the man's name for publication.
The man, 38, is accused of sending emails with death threats to the minister. The indictment details two such messages sent in mid October. The man was arrested about three weeks after sending the emails.
One of the messages read, "What is it like getting a bullet in your head, between the eyes?" In another email, sent to Livnat's Knesset address, the man wrote, "What is it like seeing you covered in black?"
Minister Livnat is not expected to testify in the defendant's trial, but the list of witnesses includes a security officer on behalf of the Culture and Sports Ministry.
The State Prosecutor's Office asked the court to order the police to keep the defendant in custody until the legal proceedings against him are completed. The State said that the man had admitted in his interrogation, "I wrote that to her because she did inappropriate things to the State, and I am willing to talk to her personally."
It was also claimed that a search in the man's apartment and personal computer revealed documents addressed to Knesset members, ministers, several celebrities and his former employer. Some of the letters included additional threats and insults. The defendant is expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
