New Age lands in south

Delegation of yoga instructors from Metro West in New Jersey come for seven-day visit in Ofakim. Instructors will work with special populations, help participants achieve balance in their lives

The New Jersey community of Metro West was paired up as a twin community with the southern communities of Ofakim and Merhavim as part of the Jewish Agency's Partnership 2000 program, which includes a range of various projects for developing the region.

A spiritual and health-oriented collaboration has recently been launched between the Ofakim and Metro West. A delegation of yoga instructors from the New Jersey community arrived this week for a seven-day visit to Ofakim in order to provide volunteer treatment to special populations in the city.

The instructors are masters in their field and have gained experience working in Third World countries and with populations that have undergone trauma.

The objective of the project is to provide yoga sessions for children at risk, elderly people, soldiers, volunteers, and professionals that will give them tools to grapple with distress and to achieve peace and balance in their lives.

The Jewish Agency's Partnership 2000 project links 550 Jewish communities throughout the world to 90 local authorities in Israel. The inter-community partnerships focus on fostering personal relationships between Israelis and Diaspora Jews and on promoting social and educational projects in Israeli society.
