Animated short film competition to be held in Holon

Holon cinemateque slated to host first of its kind competition for short animated films in December. Participants will have only five days to complete clips

The Holon cinemateque is scheduled to launch a first of its kind competition in Israel for the production of animated films of up to 30-60 seconds on December 16. Animators will be required to complete the production of their clips in only five days.

The contest is open to both young and seasoned animators who will have the chance to win a prize of NIS 5,000 (roughly $1,325). Participants will also get the opportunity to win one of three NIS 3,700 (roughly $980) scholarships for a 3-D animation course in the JCS post-production and animation school.

'Waltz with Bashir'. What will Israel produce next?

The event's panel of judges will include head of animation in the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Hanan Kaminski, Eric Gardos of JCS, International Animation Film Association chairwoman Gilat Pereg, cartoonist Tami Bernstein and Holon cinemateque content manager Alon Roseblum.

The judges will choose the finalists, whose works will be showcased in a special screening event on December 26, during which the winners will be declared.

"The competition was meant to promote the animation field in Israel," Holon cinemateque director Shira Carmi said. "It's an opportunity to bring together animators from all fields for a creative and rewarding challenge."

The event is also being sponsored by the Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts and the JCS private television production company.
