Two Border Guard officers were detained Wednesday by the Justice Ministry's Police Investigation Unit, on suspicion that they attacked a 22-year-old east Jerusalem resident.

Sources close to the two officers told Ynet that the young man was identified as one of the rioters in recent Temple Mount clashes.

The Police Investigation Unit began to probe the incident following a complaint made to the Jerusalem police by the man's father, in which he claimed two Border Guard officers beat his son.

Several hours after the complaint was made, the officers were detained by the unit's detectives. The two, who are doing their mandatory service with the Jerusalem Boarder Guard, are still being investigated.

According to the complaint, the officers were patrolling the Lion's Gate area in the Old City of Jerusalem, when they attacked the young man. Allegedly, the two beat the man with their weapons and clubs, and also punched and kicked him, inflicting injuries all throughout his body.

The man, who was lightly injured, was taken to Hadassah Medical Center for treatment, and was released Wednesday morning after giving his testimony to Border Guard detectives.

A Border Guard source said in response to the incident that "there was full cooperation between the company's commanders and Border Guard detectives, which included locating the officers who are allegedly involved."

The source stressed that "a talk was held with the entire company in order to explain the severity of these allegations, and the behavior that negates the values Border Guard officers are taught."
