Hamas' Interior Ministry in Gaza finalized an agreement with Palestinian factions in the Strip that would put an end to rocket fire on Israel, Hamas' Interior Minister Fathi Hamad announced during a press conference Saturday.

According to the announced deal, rocket fire will only be allowed in retaliation for Israeli military offences within the Strip, Hamad said.

"We don't want to curb the resistance and are not preventing the acts of the resistance," the Hamas minister said. "However, we want every move to be undertaken through agreement between the organizations, especially after the last war and the need to grant residents some breathing space and enable the Strip's reconstruction."

'Silence inseparable part of talks'

Hamas' announcement came after a Qassam rocket landed in an open area in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council early Saturday. No injuries or damage was reported in the attack.

Turning his attention to reports on an imminent swap that would see the release of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, Hamad said the media silence maintained by both sides is an inseparable part of the negotiations, in an effort to reach a deal.

The Hamas minister added that the group is expected to release several Fatah prisoners ahead of the Feast of Sacrifice this coming Friday.
