The Palestinian Authority is slated to announce a new diplomatic strategy during a special address in the United Nations on November 29, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported Wednesday.
November 29 will mark the day in which the General Assembly adopted a resolution on the partition of Palestine and voted in favor of the establishment of a Jewish and an Arab state, 62 years ago. In recent years the UN has been marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on that date.
According to the Ma'an News Agency's report, Palestinian sources have described the new policy as more liberal and more targeted towards the international community. The strategy aims to minimize the significance of the American mediation between the PA and Israel.
Palestinian UN delegate Riyad Mansur is slated to give a speech in the General Assembly Sunday on behalf of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The content of the address has not been disclosed.
In light of the current stalemate in political talks, several Palestinian leaders have approached the international community in an effort to
obtain endorsement for unilateral steps and a declaration of a Palestinian state.
Last week saw Abbas claim
in Cairo that he has not altered his decision to address the Security Council for support, despite US and European objection.
The Palestinian Liberation Organization's foreign relations department issued a statement Wednesday according to which "the Palestinian struggle is at its most dangerous stage in light of the Israeli insistence to expand settlements, demolish homes in east Jerusalem and employ manipulations in negotiations."
