Thai chef to import shakshuka
Mack Dang, famous Thai TV chef, visits Israel and falls in love with egg and tomato dish
Mack Dang, a chef raised among Thailand's aristocracy, has decided to import the shakshuka – an Israeli dish made of tomato and eggs – to his home country.
In September Dang visited Israel as the head of a television crew invited by Israel's ambassador to Thailand.
The crew came to sample Israeli food, and concluded their visit with a press conference during which Dang gave his impression of the local cuisine.
At the conference, held by Ambassador Yitzhak Shoham and his wife Dalit in their home, Dang prepared his favorite Israeli dish according to a recipe given to him by Dr. Shakshuka, Israel's famous shakshuka chef.
Dang said he planned to import the dish to his home country once he had made some adjustments to suit the local flavor.
Regarding Israeli tastes he said, "Israelis are obsessed with eggplant. Their eggplant salad looks bad, but it tastes like heaven. I fell in love with Israeli cuisine, which incorporates – like the Israelis themselves – many different cooking cultures."
