Israeli VJ to display exhibit at Tate Britain gallery

Video artists Revital Elkayam, also known as Ray-V, to present 'Quiet Voices' exhibition at London gallery next month

Israeli video artist Ray-V (Revital Elkayam) will be presenting a group exhibition at the Tate Britain art gallery in London titled: "Quiet Voices".

The exhibition will open on January 8, as part of the "Late at The Tate" program the museum has been operation for a number of years now.

Video artists John Rickson, of "The Big Chill" video festival, will serve as curator at the exhibit. The display deals with the concept of quiet and its disadvantages in modern reality, and examines its different aspects through various works.

Ray-V's participation in the event has received the support of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, and it will also be marked in a festive preview in Hayarkon 70's Spaceship Gallery.

The artist will display a work titled Step3, as a gesture to accordion music, which is made up of at least three notes. The soundtrack of the piece was composed by Yonatan Oppenheim and the still photos were taken by Roni Kaufman and Rei Dishon.

The piece presents the urban space in Tel Aviv and highlights the various layers that represent the city's fabric of life: Alienation, quiet, restlessness, loneliness, motion, anxiety and population versus urban nature.

The piece follows the elements that inhabit the urban space: The city's boulevards of trees, people wandering in the open space, the constant movement to unknown destinations and more.

The artist combines scenes from the streets with electronically processed digital urban scenes, which together represent the city's relaxed atmosphere alongside the urban force.

Elkayam, a graduate of the Camera Obscura School of Art, is a video artist and VJ who has been performing and creating pieces for over nine years in Israel and abroad.
