Knesset to showcase da Vinci art works?
Legislative body looking into proposal by Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi to bring with him paintings of renowned artist as part of possible visit to Israel, to be exhibited in Knesset as gesture to Jewish state
The Knesset management is looking into the option of hosting a number of original art works by renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci as part of a possible visit of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
The legislative body is getting ready for the possible visit to be held in a few weeks, during which the Italian premier would give a special speech before the Knesset plenum.
The Italians have suggested that Berlusconi bring with him a few works of art by the famous artist to be displayed at the building as a gesture to the legislative body.
Officials in the Knesset have not yet decided whether to accept the offer, mainly since showcasing the pieces would require special conditions.
They noted that the paintings require special temperature and lighting, in addition to upgraded security measures. "The production cost could be high and that is why we are reviewing the matter," a source at the Knesset said.
It is estimated that should the proposal be accepted, the exhibition would be displayed at the Knesset building for several weeks and would possibly be open to the public during Passover.
