Amid reports in Israel and abroad of a burgeoning prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas, Egyptian Ambassador to Israel Yasser Reda said Tuesday there had been progress in talks for the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, but refused to add details.

"This is a sensitive matter and we do not want to discuss it," he said at a naming ceremony for a Haifa square, inaugurated in former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat's name.

"If the negotiations are conducted secretly he (Shalit) will soon be with his family, God willing."

Reda said ahead of the ceremony that Sadat's vision "inspires us to work towards a peace process that will encompass the entire region."

Asked by reporters to address claims that the peace between Israel and Egypt is a "cold" one," the ambassador said, "There is peace between the two nations; no one can dispute this."
