Bnei Brak: Boy falls from balcony on mayor's car; moderately hurt

Five-year-old falls from balcony, lands on parked car belonging to city's mayor; evacuated to hospital with head wounds, fully conscious

A five-year-old boy sustained moderate injuries on Monday when he fell from the fourth floor of an apartment building located on Rambam Street in Bnei Brak and landed on a parked car belonging to the city's mayor, Yaakov Asher.

The boy was evacuated to the Chaim Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer.

The mayor's driver, Meir Bernstein, told Ynet that there were no passengers in the car when the boy landed on top of it. "I went to get something from the mayor's home on Rambam Street. Suddenly I heard a boom coming from the car's direction. I thought someone had thrown a bag filled with water, but then I spotted the boy; a lot of blood was oozing from his head," the driver recounted.

"I gathered that the boy was playing on the balcony and fell. His parents weren't home. The Magen David Adom paramedics arrived very quickly; they said the car saved the boy's life," Bernstein said.

A police investigation revealed that the boy was left at home with a 14-year-old babysitter. At a certain point the girl saw that he was not in his room and realized that he had fallen from the balcony.

Paramedic Sharon Ben-Zvi told Ynet that the boy was fully conscious when the medical team arrived at the scene.

"He remembered the details of the incident and said he had fallen from the fourth floor. He cried constantly and did not want to go to the hospital," she said, adding that an initial examination of the boy did not find any broken bones.
