The Jerusalem Police arrested nine residents of the Shufat refugee camp Tuesday, after they stoned Border Guard and police forces accompanying municipal officers in the city. It was the second consecutive day of rioting in the camp.

City workmen have been deployed across Shufat, located north of Jerusalem, in an effort to repair some of the infrastructural damaged caused by the riots.

Suleiman, a resident of the camp, recounted the recent events in an interview with Ynet. "Near the checkpoint there are many police and Border Guard officers, they are everywhere," he said. "For the entire day there was chaos."

Suleiman added that Israeli security forces had used rubber bullets and pepper spray while attempting to contain the riots.

"The people living near the checkpoint are so afraid for their children that they are refusing to let them out of the house for fear they will be arrested or hit with a rubber bullet," he said, adding that all shops and authorities had closed their doors to the public.

Monday's clashes, like Tuesday's, began at noon, when local schools let out. Student who saw the security forces began hurling rocks at them and the situation quickly deteriorated.

On Monday one Border Guard officer and four police were lightly injured. Some 34 people have been arrested since the riots began.

Police sources told Ynet that security forces join all municipal workers and inspectors who enter the refugee camp, as a safety precaution.
