Car, electric appliance sales up in February
Some 32,000 cars imported to Israel last month, 30% more than previous year. Electric appliance sales also jump, but television sales spoil party with 4.7% drop
February was a sales bonanza in Israel, with sales of cars of all types and all electric appliances, except televisions, on the rise.
Tax Authority figures published Sunday show that private car sales in February increased 30.3% over last year's figures. Overall, 31,916 cars were imported to Israel during this period. Commercial vehicle sales increased 54.9%, and a total of 1,844 such vehicles were imported to Israel.
Two-wheeled vehicle sales increased 49.6%, as some 2,628 such vehicles imported to Israel in February. Truck and tractor sales also grew by 18.1%. Some 1,034 such vehicles were imported to Israel in the past month.
The figures also showed a sharp increased in refrigerator imports by 48.1% and 24,885 refrigerators imported. Washing machine imports increased by 20.3% with 24,885 units imported to Israel.
Imports of dryers increased by 18.9% with a total of 3,195 units imported to Israel. The import of dishwashers nearly doubled with a 93.6% increase and 9,620 dishwashers imported to Israel in February.
DVD and video devices saw moderate sales increases of 7% and 54,750 units imported last month. Only television imports fell in February, with 4.7% less imports than the same period last year. Overall, 47,235 television sets were imported to Israel in February.
The Tax Authority figures also show that State income from taxes stood at NIS 14.5 billion (about $3.83 billion). Income from taxes saw a real increase of 7.2%, a figure that shows that Israel has emerged from the recession to a large extent at the beginning of 2010.
