Tel Aviv police arrested a man Tuesday suspected of sending threatening letters to Channel 2 anchorwoman Yonit Levy and investigative journalist Ilana Dayan.
The suspect was arrested after arriving at Dayan's house and handing over a letter to a third party in which he claimed of being conspired against. He was brought for a remand hearing at the Tel Aviv Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The police inquiry was launched on Friday with Levy's arrival to a north Tel Aviv police station in order to file a complaint. She presented a letter sent to her which read, "You will die" along with other threats. Forensics experts failed to find a fingerprint match on the paper and reveal the sender's identity.
A new lead was found Tuesday when journalist Ilana Dayan reported receiving a similar letter which mainly included harassment messages and also contained drawings, as in Levy's letter.
The writer claimed he was conspired against and requested Dayan to speak with Levy. He left his letter with a third party who was meant to deliver it to the journalist.
In this case the note contained enough identifying details which enabled police to locate the writer. After his arrest Tuesday he confessed to writing the letters but added that he never meant to harm the two women.
Police, however, do not take the incident lightly. "When a person manages to locate the women's addresses - which are not publicly available - and arrives at their doorstep, and in light of the letter's content - it’s alarming," one police source said.
