'Private Benjamin' gets revamped

Movie starring Goldie Hawn as Jewish-American woman who joins army is getting a remake

The movie that saw Goldie Hawn join the army is getting a remake. This time around, Anna Faris ("Scary Movie", "The House Bunny") is set to star in the title role.

The original "Private Benjamin" featured Hawn as Judy Benjamin, a Jewish-American woman who joins the army following the death of her husband during their wedding night. It was released in 1980.

"Private Benjamin" was nominated for three Academy Awards – including Best Actress in a Leading role for Hawn’s performance in the film. It was also one of the top grossing movies of the year.

The new version will be remade by New Line Cinema, according to Artist Direct. This is the second Goldie Hawn movie that is getting a remake this year. Earlier in March, it was announced that Jennifer Lopez will be taking over Hawn’s role in an "Overboard" remake.
