Gold, the son of Oscar winning composer Ernest Gold ("Exodus", "Ship of Fools”) and singer Marni Nixon, who is best known for dubbing the movie singing voices of Natalie Wood in “West Side Story” and Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady,” began his musical career in 1973 in the backup band of Linda Ronstadt.

In 1976 his career took off with the hit song "Lonely Boy" that told the story of a boy who was ignored by his parents after his baby sister was born.

His third album included the hit "Thank You For Being a Friend," which relived its success during the 1980s as the theme song for the popular TV series "Golden Girls."

Throughout the years, along with his solo career, Gold collaborated with artists spanning from Paul McCartney and John Lennon to Joni Mitchell and Celine Dion.

Gold left behind a wife and three daughters from his first marriage.
