Arsenal midfielder left out of national team's final Euro 2012 qualifier after picking up muscle injury
Arsenal midfielder Yossi Benayoun has been left out of Israel's squad for its final Euro 2012 qualifier against Malta next month after picking up a muscle injury.
Israel and Malta will both be playing for pride when they meet in Malta on October 11.
Israel is currently in third place in Group F, but is five points behind second-placed Greece, giving it no chance of finishing any higher. Malta is bottom of the group with just a single point from its eight games.
Israeli coach Luis Fernandez announced his squad Sunday and spoke of his disappointment at failing to qualify but said finishing third behind Greece and Croatia "wouldn't be bad."
