Israeli firms jump on Bangalore train

Israeli companies save on costs, target new markets by outsourcing to Asian firms, sparking controversy over harm to local workforce

If you are a VP of sales in a US-based firm, you may one day soon receive a call interesting you in a number of Israeli innovations relevant to your company’s field.

But chances are the representative on the phone will actually be calling you from Bangalore or Manila, as recently the global trend of outsourcing has taken Israeli high-tech firms by storm.

As worldwide demand for Israeli technology continues to rise, constituting a large part of the state’s exports, companies increasingly in need of personnel have begun to search for economical solutions. Asian outsourcing firms seem to have provided a perfect fit, especially where marketing is concerned.

This new trend has impelled Lead to Market, a lead generation company based in Bangalore, to open a representative office in Israel.

According to Alon Ben Shoshan, the VP sales of Lead to Market, "The need for cost-effective marketing such as telesales and lead generation is on the rise in Israel. Why should a company run a costly inside sales operation locally, when they can benefit and cut their overheads by using the professional services of a firm running from the heart of the outsourcing hub of the world – Bangalore?"

The new trend has also generated controversy, with many claiming outsourcing is bad for the local economy and could negatively affect Israelis holding telesales positions.

But companies using these services appear satisfied with the results. And, according to Ben Shoshan, “the country will only benefit from the increase in sales.

“It is imperative that Israeli companies lower their operating costs and aspire to efficient practices, for at the end of the day they are competing in a global market and boosting profits whilst streamlining one's budget is vital for sustaining company performance in the long run.”
